Work Placements

Maisie and Amy

Two students from Sir Frank Whittle Studio School in Lutterworth are enjoying learning the ropes of the hospitality business on work placement at Kilworth House Hotel and Theatre as part of their studies.

Amy Betteridge, aged 17 and Maisie McMahon Marsden aged 16, both Year 12 students are currently studying BTEC Level 3 in Business alongside their studies. Like all students at the Sir Frank Whittle Studio School, Maisie and Amy attend work placements every week alongside studies and have been experiencing first-hand what it’s like to be in the world of work through high quality work placements.

Maisie explained “Amy and I have been working both front of house and with the staff behind the scenes getting involved in all areas of hospitality. We have helped to seat guests in the dining room, serving drinks and afternoon teas. We have also helped with buffets for weddings and conferences”

Amy commented further ~ it’s been great to meet so many different guests and to be able to make them feel relaxed and comfortable during their stay at Kilworth House Hotel and we have learned so much about the hospitality industry”

Alison Cant, Business Links Coordinator at Sir Frank Whittle Studio School explained “Both Amy and Maisie are exploring their options for education and employment following their post 16 studies and the work placement at Kilworth House Hotel and Theatre gives them a real experience of the world of work to help them to make decisions about their futures”

Sir Frank Whittle Studio School opened its doors in September 2014 with a unique approach to education, helping students to combine high quality GCSE’s alongside highly valued BTEC qualifications. Its small school, big ambition philosophy is one that both and Amy and Maisie stressed was one of the best things about their experience at the school. Amy commented “ Small class sizes suit me and having the independence to be able to organise events and the work placement has been fantastic” Maisie agreed “small classes with lots of support when I need it is important and I feel like I get treated as an adult”
