Sir Frank Whittle Students Raising Funds for Life Saving Equipment

The Sir Frank Whittle Studio School is working hard to raise funds to purchase a defibrillator for the school.  Being able to perform CPR is the first and most important stage of potentially saving someone’s life if they suffer a cardiac arrest.

We are one of the first schools in the country to be taking part in a new training programme to create a ‘Nation of Lifesavers.’ The British Heart Foundation have supplied us, for free, with mannequins and training materials.  It is our aim that by Christmas, all members of Sir Frank Whittle Studio School will be able to perform potentially life-saving CPR.

Students have been shown an introductory DVD and will attend group training sessions on CPR, the recovery position and the use of a defibrillator.  Training is completed in only 30 minutes and everyone will receive a certificate from the BHF.

In the UK, over 30,000 people every year will suffer cardiac arrest outside of a hospital environment with 20% of these attacks happening in a public place.  If immediate and effective CPR is performed, it can double the chances of survival in some cases.
