Parents get first peek at Leicestershire's newest secondary school building

On Thursday 17th December, parents of current and future students of Sir Frank Whittle Studio School attended the first Open Evening inside the new purpose built building on Bitteswell Road in Lutterworth. Students proudly gave guided tours to their families and to visitors who were able to see the “State of The Art” Engineering, Business and Sport teaching facilities aimed at students from 14-18 years.

The guests enjoyed refreshments donated by Britvic and ASDA IDC from Magna Park who are two of the school’s many commercial partners. Parents took the opportunity to meet and chat about their child’s progress since the opening of the school in temporary accommodation in September 2014. A key feature of their comments was the impact of work experience and also the benefits of having weekly reports on progress from the students Personal Coaches. Notably, students at post 16 have earned collectively over £50,000.00 during 18,000 plus hours of high quality work experience.

As a small school, places are limited and there will be more open events in the spring term. However for a personal guided tour of the school during or after the extended business-like hours, please contact Sara Poultney on 01455 205112 or email

Paul Hostead, Headteacher commented:

“What a delight it was to see so many of our students and parents touring our new £3.5m home. Even in temporary accommodation and with huge community support, we have seen our school go from strength to strength where people from as far afield as Europe have been visiting us to learn about what we do. We believe there is nothing like our education on offer across our region and we will continue to work with “Blue Chip” companies, parents and the community to develop work ready professionals, ready to take on the business world.

Comments received from parents after the Open Evening:

“Just wanted to let you all know, that our visit to your super new building tonight was absolutely wonderful! All the hard work and patience has definitely paid off and hoping that all at Sir Frank Whittle will excel in your new home.”

“Thanks for the personal tour last night it is a great facility and I hope that everyone that passes through it has great success.”

“Just wanted to say that we were pleased to have the opportunity to view the new building - as were most parents/carers judging by the turn out last night!

We received a very warm welcome from you all and are impressed with the design, layout, ambience and quietness - all conducive to a serious working environment, giving a professional air of which you should be proud.

Our son is very impressed with all your engineering machinery, and believe me, that is high praise from a person who is very critical about having the right tools to do a perfect job!”

“One of the big things in favour of the school is the staff it has working there. You are all so supportive and work so hard for the students.”
